Rochdale Canal (Rochdale Walton AS stretch)

The Rochdale Canal sections controlled by Rochdale Walton Angling Society provide linear, mixed-coarse fishing through parts of Oldham and Rochdale. Canal fishing is often about mobility and watercraft—walking the towpath to find clearer water, signs of fish topping, or areas with structure such as bridges, moored boats, reeds and lock landings. Typical tactics include light float work with maggot or bread for roach and perch, pole rigs on the shelf, and small feeders when conditions suit. Canals can respond quickly to boat traffic and weather changes; after disturbance, fish often regroup in steadier areas or along the far bank. Keep tackle compact and be mindful of cyclists and other towpath users.
