Westlake (Clayhole) (Hindley Green)
Description
Westlake (also known locally as Clayhole) is a Wigan-area stillwater that is often fished on a day-ticket basis, with typical mixed-coarse sport. Anglers generally target carp alongside bream, roach, tench and perch, making it a good option for pleasure sessions with consistent action. A straightforward approach usually works well: start with a waggler or pole line for regular bites, and keep a second line available for method or feeder tactics if carp are showing at range. Accurate feeding is important on pressured waters—small, regular amounts of pellet or groundbait can keep fish competing without overdoing it. Wind direction can influence where carp patrol, so consider setting up on a windward bank when possible. Check current ticket arrangements and fishery rules (nets, mats, barbless hooks, etc.) before fishing and be prepared to move if your swim goes quiet.
